    REVIEW: ASSOS Equipe Range Review

    Product Overview

The équipe range from ASSOS is a line designed to offer the feel and construction found in its more flamboyant brother the Campionissimo range at a price point more closely related to the Mille range. This is why in our opinion it makes the ultimate entry-level race line or fast training kit.

ASSOS admit this themselves stating the range offers a daily workhorse jersey focused on performance matched with their Summer skinFoil baselayers and the équipe short and you will certainly have one of the fastest outfits to match your rivals.

    Key Features

ASSOS introduced the équipe range to bridge the gap between the flawless Campionissimo line and the price competitive Mille range and we here at Scotby Cycles feel they have really hit the nail on the head, constructed of the lightly compressive material that instantly clicks into place when your riding. As with all ASSOS products they are famed for their highly technical materials and advanced construction methods, the SS.equipeJersey_evo8 doesn’t buck the trend, on the front of the jersey ASSOS has implemented a  3D mesh style material designed to offer fast lightweight feel whilst the 3D weave increased the surface area making it fast drying and highly breathable.

Staying on the front, the sleeves are finished with welded seams making the feel very light and comfortable whilst being far from restrictive. ASSOS has also used a full length bonded zip making for a seamless join in the jersey, I certainly felt this did two things:

    1. It resulted in far less bulk on the front of the jersey, confirming better with less bunch up at the front.

    2. Smaller and flatter seams reduce drag improving aerodynamic properties.

Moving to the rear ASSOS has used a lightweight mesh rear this helps the jersey breath allowing warm, damp air to early exit as well as drying quickly. Like on the front of the jersey a mesh rear increase surface area, actively moving damp air away from the body; matched with a NS.skinFoil summer_s7 I found the combination of the two sublime, the Summer skinFoil is constructed from ASSOS’s seamless transport mesh offering ultimate comfort without seams but maximum breathability. ASSOS has always stuck to their layering system and for good reasons, a poor baselayer leaves you uncomfortable and sweaty which was where the combination of the SS.equipeJersey_evo8 jersey NS.skinFoil summer_s7 excelled.

Tested on a warm July lunch time it was the perfect weather to see how the famed skinFoil technology would perform with a jersey I already knew had excellent wicking properties and I was blown away, as soon as I began to perspire the baselayer remained dry and comfortable allowing all moisture to transfer out. Particularly impressive was that the equipe jersey remained dry throughout showing just how important a good baselayer is.

The SS.equipeJersey_evo8 jersey has 3 good size rear pocket, large enough to fit a lightweight rain jacket or gilet but still supportive enough to keep ant gels or mobile phones secure and bounce free. ASSOS has also included a zippered security pocket particularly useful for keys and money something I believe more cycling garment should utilise.

    The Fit

As previously mentioned the Equipe range is designed to offer the fit and performance of the Campionissimo but at a price point that is far more reasonable. I agree with the fitting claims, the equipe jersey in a Medium was in keeping with similar manufactures offering aero, aggressively cut kit that is still comfortable to wear day after day. The jersey wasn’t overly tight and the low cut V-shaped collar laid smoothly against the skin.

The T.equipe_s7 shorts offer a similar cut and feel to their matching jersey, again a Medium was in keeping with most major brands the racing fit offers a lightly compressive fit designed to add support to your muscles. ASSOS has also used their ICE colour, black material can often be hot in direct sun light, the ICE colour is designed to reduce internal temperature creating a pocket of cooler air next to your skin helping to regulate your temperature.

    The Equipe S7 pad

As you may have guessed the whole Equipe range is designed for those fast days, this continues through to the S7 pad used in the T.equipe_s7 bib short. For starters the pad is rotated forward slightly on its centre, this has been done to provide a more support and comfort when riding in the drops, after all if you have equipe range your going to be riding hard. As found in the T.milleShorts_s7 short ASSOS has utilized their Golden Gate technology, by separating the pad from the short in the centre it allows the pad to move independently from the short helping reduce irritation of delicate areas.

The main set pad is 8mm thick giving plenty of support, so far I have managed to test the T.equipe_s7 bib short up to 3 hour and have been extremely impressed, every manufacturer produces different results and over the years you develop a keen eye for a good pair of shorts, the T.equipe_s7 is by far the most comfortable short I have worn not just down to the S7 insert but down to the supportive nature of the legs and the wide, secure elastic bib straps that hold short in place.

The T.equipe_S7 is the stand out product from the equipe range that has been highly impressive.

    Overview

I was starting a fresh when reviewing the ASSOS Equipe range, I’d never owned or worn any ASSOS clothing and even based my sizing off other manufactures that I knew fit, this serves testament to the designers and engineers at ASSOS that have produced a fantastic entry-level race day/training kit that served one purpose. To maximise your advantage over your rivals, wither its the aerodynamics and breathability of the Equipe jersey or sublime comfort of the T.equipe bibshort, the equipe range offers unrivalled performance for a fraction of the ASSOS cost.
