New to the road Tyre market but certainly not new to the Tyre market. Founded in 1872 in Milan, Pirelli has been sponsoring competitions since 1907 through to modern day Formula One. In 2017 they made the venture into road cycling using their vast experience, imaginative design and advanced production methods to produce a range of tyres that simply cannot be rivalled in price, grip or performance.

About their range

After nearly 50 years away from the cycling industry, Pirelli has released three new road tyres taking the market by storm. Pirelli aimed at having a broad spread in the road market, from your lightweight carbon race bike through to all day winter epics on your sturdy winter hack; Pirelli will have it covered. For the racing stakes among us, Pirelli has to offer their P-ZERO VELO TT the fastest and lightest tyre in their range weighing a mere 165g with a pure focus on performance and reduced rolling resistance, available in 23mm only. For everyday road riding mixed with faster group riding Pirelli has brought the P-ZERO VELO to the table. Designed as their all-rounder, 210g weight, Aramid puncture resistance combined with the super sticky Smartnet Silica compound the VELO tyre will serve you perfectly when the weather and roads are clear.

Topping out the Pirelli road tyre range is their P-ZERO VELO 4S. Available in three sizes, 23mm, 25mm and 28mm its introduced as Pirelli’s ultimate mile muncher, its the perfect winter tyre, a time when you need to have absolute confidence in what you are using. The construction of the 4S is based on the standard VELO but with Aramid Pulp compound added to the Smartnet Silica tread, by adding the aramid material Pirelli state to have increased the durability and wear resistance of the tyre without altering the wet weather grip and only a minor difference in rolling resistance. An epic winter ride isn’t the same without wet and slipper moors road and sweeping descents, Pirelli has increased the grooves on the tread allowing the tyre to shed water quicker, meaning improved wet weather grip. Coming in at 220g they sit comparably with the benchmark of all tyres the Continental GP4000s II while having a MSRP price range of either £43.99 or £45.99 again they sit comparably with the majority of the Continental range but most importantly still a full £15 cheaper than the highly priced GP4000.

First impressions are certainly impressive, the packaging is clean and neat as you would expect from a marketing giant such as Pirelli, topped off with a rubber wrist band emblazed in the P-zero font for that personalised touch. Out of the box the compound feels tacky and the folding bead feel supple but supportive.

We’re certainly looking forward to getting some miles under our belts on these puppies. Stay tuned for a full review very soon.
