Vario High-Vis Pannier Bag
Previously known as the Vario PS High Visibility
A backpack that cuts a good figure both on and off the bike yet is also extremely versatile – that’s the Vario High-Vis.
On the one hand, it’s a classic bike bag for a luggage rack with a plentiful storage capacity of 26 litres, while, on the other hand, it transforms into a second-to-none backpack within a matter of seconds.
Switching between the two possible applications takes just a few seconds and is quite easy thanks to the reversible front pocket. This front pocket additionally has an integrated outer pocket with zipper.
Thanks to the reflective thread sewn into the fabric, the version from the High Visibility Line attracts maximum attention and enhances safety, regardless of whether the Vario High-Vis is in use as a bike bag or backpack.
The QL 2.1 mounting system attaches the bag to the bike’s luggage rack. It keeps the bag securely fastened to the bike, protecting the contents of the bag on the way to work, university or school. The roll closure of the waterproof hybrid allows easy and fast access to the main compartment. An inner pocket with laptop compartment provides additional protection for digital freight.
Made of tear and abrasion-resistant nylon and Cordura fabrics, the backpack does of course also have a padded carrier system along with ergonomic shoulder straps with reflective yarn woven into them. This not only ensures good visibility from the front as well but also makes it extremely comfortable to carry.
The Vario High-Vis is PVC-free and is of course produced sustainably in Germany.

ORTLIEB rebranded a number of their products for 2024, the Vario High-Vis was previously called the Vario PS High Visibility.
We expect the outer packaging for such products will continue to show the previous product name for some time into 2024 as ORTLIEB use up their stocks of pre-existing packaging, so if you order a Vario High-Vis and you receive a boxed or bagged product from us branded as Vario PS High Visibility then don't worry about it - you have recieived the product you ordered. For further information, we have a dedicated page highlighting the changes across the ORTLIEB product portfolio for 2024 onwards.Year2024MSRP£226.00PVC-free?YesIP RatingIP64
IP Ratings Explanation
IP Ratings or Ingress Protection Ratings is an internationally recognised means of rating products of various types in terms of their capacity to prevent dust or liquids from engrossing into them or through them, pretty much all of ORTLIEB’s products bare an IP rating.
The tl;dr as possible explanation is as follows;
The first digit represents the products resistance to dust with ratings ratings above 4 being resistant to anything larger than 1mm and ratings of 5 and 6 being pretty much impenetrable.
The second digit represents the products resistance to liquids, this rating is slightly more complicated than first as aspects such as the pressure of the water being sprayed onto the product and the angle matter.
A rating of 3 means the product can handle sprays of water hitting it within 60 degrees from vertical (basically, this isn’t a problem unless you plan on riding through a typhoon or on a normal summers day here in the Lake District), ratings 4 and above can handle water hitting it from any direction.
Products which bare a rating of 7 (such as some of the BikePacking and Attack products) are the Andy McNab’s of the scale as they’ll handle high pressure water jets from any direction and submersion up to 1 meter in depth.
It’s worth noting that to achieve these ratings, products must be property closed and in some cases with bags which feature roll closures a number of roles are required - each product such have a PDF data sheet available which may detail ORTLIEB’s requirements to achieve the IP rating they’ve been awarded.ClosureRoll-TopQL TypeQuick-Lock 2.1FabricsPS33, PS50CXVolume26 litresWeight1.64 kgHeight47 cmDepth22 cm
