As crowds gathered in cafes and at outdoor screenings, Palestinians bravely cheered for a team that has won their affection. Many waved Spanish flags in honor of Lamine Yamal, a teenage player who made headlines by carrying a Palestinian flag during Barcelona’s La Liga celebrations in May.
In a heartfelt message before the match, the Gaza al-Irada amputee football team expressed their solidarity, stating, “Whoever raises the Palestinian flag deserves to raise the World Cup,”
Saadi al-Masri, 40, who leads the amputee team in Gaza, shared the experience of watching the game with friends at a local cafe. He expressed, “I support Spain because we see it as a country that stands with the Palestinian cause and supports Palestinian rights,”

The majority of the 2 million Palestinians living in the territory reside in tent camps after their homes were destroyed by Israeli attacks, struggling with limited access to electricity and internet.

Upon learning of Spain’s victory on Monday, she was overwhelmed with emotion. “We were very happy when the final whistle confirmed Spain’s victory,” she shared. “We see their support as a sign of humanity.”
