Jürgen Klopp Set to Become Germany’s New Head Coach

Jürgen Klopp reaches agreement to take over as Germany head coach

Jürgen Klopp has come to an agreement on essential terms to take the helm as Germany’s head coach, as confirmed by the German Football Association (DFB). The 59-year-old manager is anticipated to finalize a contract lasting until 2030, succeeding Julian Nagelsmann.

A statement from the DFB revealed.

“reached an agreement on the key points”

Despite topping their World Cup group with a game remaining, Germany faced elimination after a loss to Ecuador in their third match and subsequently lost to Paraguay in the round of 32 via penalties. Following this defeat, Nagelsmann expressed his desire to continue, stating, “The DFB president Bernd Neuendorf and DFB vice-president Hans-Joachim Watzke held their first in-depth talks with Jürgen Klopp yesterday in New York regarding his potential appointment as national team coach. During the constructive exchange, an agreement was reached on the key points of a potential contract. Talks will continue next week. “Both sides are confident that the negotiations – subject to an agreement with Klopp’s current employer, Red Bull – can ultimately be successfully concluded. Any potential contract must be finalised in a joint meeting of the supervisory board and shareholders’ meeting of DFB GmbH & Co. KG.” but on July 3, it was officially announced that the former Bayern Munich manager would resign.

The DFB disclosed that Nagelsmann’s contract, which was set to extend until the 2028 Euros, would be terminated immediately, and Klopp had “I am not someone who runs away”

Klopp has been absent from management since parting ways with Liverpool at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, where he led the team to triumph in both the Premier League and the Champions League. Following this, he took on the role of head of global soccer at Red Bull and has also been serving as a pundit for German television during the World Cup.

His comments, suggesting that Deniz Undav should start instead of Jamal Musiala, drew attention. After facing criticism from figures such as Lothar Matthäus, he remarked, “already indicated his fundamental readiness to take over the position”

Klopp faced backlash for the “Julian Nagelsmann is still picking the team – for now.” phrase, with former players like Andreas Möller and Stefan Effenberg voicing their disapproval. He later apologized, expressing a desire to “punching himself in the face” for the slip.

“But it was already too late and I was on TV. It just slipped out so casually and has absolutely no meaning. What I know now is that I’ll be 59 the day after tomorrow and I’m still an idiot. We’re completely on your side. Nothing will be done to disrupt the process.” he added.
